Did You Know? - Browser Scripts, Notes Icons

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 3, 2013, 12:24 AM
Browser Scripts on dA

"Did you know that for most browsers, there are many scripts and add-ons you can install to improve your dA experience? Examples of things browser scripts can do for you are easily finding plz accounts, using more emoticons in the forums and turning off the lights to better see some deviations! :strip:

Ever wanted to enlarge and collect thumbs easily, tell apart your group messages or search through your notes? Browser scripts make it possible.

Especially with Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome you have a wide range of options. Many scripts for Firefox work through greasemonkey. In Chrome, some scripts require tampermonkey to work. These are free and easy to install and use.

Some more popular browser scripts:

You can browse more browser scripts on dA here. :eager: Before installing a script, I do recommend checking the submit date and the latest comments - if it's several years old, there's a chance the script has become outdated.

:eager: Go forth and enhance your dA experience!"

Notes Icons

Suggested by SingingFlames and written by bradleysays.

Did you know there are five different icons that correspond with the status of incoming and outgoing notes?

Incoming Notes

These are notes that are sent by other deviants with you as the recipient.

Read - this icon indicates that you've read, but not yet replied to the note.

Replied - this icon indicates that you've read and replied to the note.

Unread - this icon indicates that you have not read the note.

Outgoing Notes

These are notes that you have sent to another deviant.

Read - This icon indicates that a note you have sent has been read by the recipient.

Unread - This icon indicates that a note you have sent has not been read by the recipient.

Great article! :la: Thanks for using my suggestion. :) I had to find out a lot by trial and error. I wish dA explained some things more, or had a little popup window when you hovered over the icon, that explained some of those icons for those of us who might not know.

Good ones. Not enough people know how much dA is customizable.

And I really like this series of articles. I don't know if now it's different, but when I joined dA it was a bit overwhelming and unknown. I mean: it's such a vast website, with so many possibilities, that I was lost as to what I could do and how I could do it when I first joined, and there wasn't really an explanation anywhere. Any new deviant's inbox should contain a number of Hot Topic messages linking to, you know, tutorials about how to browse the site, submit a journal or a deviation, use and join groups, stuff like that. Maybe the Did You Know section could write those tutorials, the FAQ isn't always noob-friendly.

Also, a Did You Know about Groups' admin classes I think would be great. The Manage Members section can be pretty tricky, especially the "exceptions" part of it; and it's a pretty powerful tool within the Group, so knowing how to use it well might help a lot of people!
