Presenting...
Emerald-Depths
Forever lost in another world...
Firstly, could you give us a brief introduction of yourself?
My name is Danielle, I'm 22, and I am currently going for a BA in Business Administration at Neumann University. I earn my living and tuition by working as an electronics sales associate at Wal-Mart. Art has been a hobby of mine since I was younger, but it's been a larger part of my life for the last few years once I became more serious about it. My other hobbies include reading and listening to music. There're many more but those are the two primary ones.
What gave you the idea to register with your username?
I have been a member of Fanfiction.net for many years (writing was another major hobby of mine when I had more free time), and my pen name on there is Haunted Emerald Depths. I've stuck with the name across the net for years, but I ended up shortening it to Emerald Depths for dA. It's a Harry Potter reference. Regarding Harry's eye color. I was (and still am) a major HP nerd. I'm quite happy with my choice.
How has deviantART changed your life?
deviantART has really helped me learn a lot about art. I first started off browsing. I came across types of art I never knew existed (such as vector/vexel, fractal, some types of artisan crafts, and most importantly, photo manipulation). It basically opened a door for me and allowed me to grow as an artist. Once I acquired Photoshop, I was set. And the community atmosphere... I've never known of another website like this one. The people here are awesome for the most part. It's a great place to network.
If you had the opportunity, would you work or volunteer for deviantART?
I really want to volunteer. For one of the galleries, to be more specific. It's been a goal of mine for the past couple of years, and I hope for it to be reality some day. It seems like a great way to give back to the community (I would love to feature DDs and help other artists gain more recognition - there are so many gems out there).
Which gallery (or sub-gallery) holds a special place in your heart?
Photo manipulation by far. If I went as far to choose a sub-gallery, I'd say Landscape and Scenery (I adore nature). Once I started trying it out there was really no going back. I love challenges, and this form of art can indeed be trying at times. There are endless possibilities. I can do something completely off the wall, or I can go for photo-realism. It's so fun.
You have quite a collection of Accepted DD Suggestions, what's the most rewarding thing about suggesting DDs?
The most rewarding thing would have to be the artist's reaction, especially if it is their first feature. The happiness is so contagious, it's almost like receiving one myself. It also gives me a sense of satisfaction to see a suggestion accepted. It's nice.
What do you think about the deviantART community in general?
I think it's a great community. There are so many things to learn here and so many great people. I may be having a bad day or going through a tough time, and there's always someone to turn things around. I can also spend hours here every day and not be bored because of all the features offered.
If you were to change ONE thing about dA, what would it be?
Honestly, I can't think of anything right now. I'm pretty open to change, so I don't mind when features evolve.
You are involved in the photo manipulation community, do you think it's under-rated? Why?
Nope, I don't believe it is under-rated. There are a lot of very popular artists that give the gallery a lot of recognition. A lot of book covers and CD covers show manipulations. This particular art form seems to be getting around just fine.
Thank you for allowing me to interview you! To end the interview, would you like to promote something or inspire us with a quote?
First off, it was quite fun answering these questions.
Now here's a good inspirational quote to bring it to a close:
“If you only do what you know you can do - you never do very much.”
- Tom Krause
It's always good to try new things, even if you don't believe them to be within your ability. It never hurts to make an attempt. You may just find out that you excel.

Edit: Back online!

For almost 2 weeks now, I've had no internet connection at home. We recently had our kitchen redone, but in the process our internet wall port was destroyed.
I'll be back as soon as I can. :)
