Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm sorry, but I hate this type of question. It's too vague. What should I be saying? How I look? What I like? Where you can find me? Where did I bury the bodies? But it's not open enough for me to just say whatever stuff I want to, and get away with it. Maybe the little bit about myself will be how much I hate general and vague questions. Like those interview question "what is you greatest weakness?" That is a crappy question. Everyone will probably just lie to make themselves look better, because they know everyone else is lying to make themselves look better. Don't ask that.
*Emotikonz, how did you find deviantART?
I have no idea. I can't remember. This isn't my first account though, *Karsciyin was. And I can't remember why I joined. I think I was just killing time while bored at high school with Photoshop, and then I wanted someone who would actually accept whatever crap I managed to produce.
How did you get your username, or what does it symbolize?
Running down a rain-slicked pavement late on a Tuesday night... a cloaked figure approached me with heavy footsteps, silhouetted by streetlight. The mysterious figure thrust a piece of paper into my hand. "Take it." a voice rasped. "I need it no longer." On the paper was the log-in information for *Emotikonz, and the address of a target which I was to pffff, okay, obviously not true. In fact this account is actually an offset account for pixel art. The first thing I made was emoticons, so i named myself accordingly. But if anyone did get their username like that, note me with the whole thing.
What do you like most about deviantART?
Community, comments, and a way to waste time on the internet.Sometimes I don't even know why I'm here, but I know it's a place I'll never leave as I've met too many great people here.
Are there any deviantART features that you have never used?
I've tried and looked at all of them. But there are many I only ever looked at once - protfolio, for example. I rarely use the 'Today' page, either, I usually just enter "http://today.deviantart.com/dds" into my URL if I want to see the Daily Deviations.
How old were you when you first became interested in art?
I don't remember, so I must have been young. I always thought I was crap at it though, and I still think I am. I know I'm great compared to my family and most of my peers (even at an art college apparently) but I look at deviantART and feel like I could never compete. (Especially since I draw best with pencil, and colour best on computer, but have no reliable means to merging the two.)
Which artists (off and on dA) inspire you?
No one specific. I like art pieces, not artists, and on deviantART I have a whole list of people with art I drool over. Most of my inspiration, however, does not come from other people's art per se - it comes from movies, games, and most importantly - music.
What are your pet peeves on dA?
People completely changing accounts because they 'felt like a change'. People storing deviations because they're too lazy to delete them, so my faves (and therefore random faves modules) are filled with little safes. Signatures with false FAQs about getting pageviews that LINK TO THEIR PAGE.
Recently, there has been a lot of controversy about buying pageviews with points. What is your view on this?
The hell to the what? NO.Pageviews are a not a damn point system. I can understand trying to get legitimate views to your page to increase exposure, but if they are paying people to just endlessly refresh their page, or are using bots, the hell?! If anything, large pageviews are a curse since people are less likely to comment on your stuff, assuming you are 'too busy' or 'too popular'. What kind of idiot buys a number..?!
What type of music are you into?
Almost everything but the ones with screaming in them. I like a lot of stuff from the 50-80s, but some modern stuff too. Enya, the Fray, Jars of Clay, Simon and Garfunkel, Two Steps from Hell. I also have lots of soundtracks from games and movies like Mass Effect 1/2, Dragon Age, JC's Avatar, etc.
What kind of movies are you into?
Kid's animations (particularly the 3d kind, though 2d is cool too), superhero blockbusters, science fiction (both hard and soft). Stuff based on mythology is interesting too.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
NOTHING.LEG ASP!
I'd like to say a huge thanks to *Emotikonz for taking the time to be interviewed.
