Over my term as the deviantART Related volunteer (and even way before that) I've noticed that dA Related Daily Deviations tend to get some hate.
Past dA Related volunteers have always included what category each Daily Deviation they feature is in hoping it would reduce the amount of "wtf is this?" comments.
Here are some topics that I know have been addressed endlessly by various people, past and present, from the Community Relations team:
What is a Daily Deviation?
FAQ #61: What is a Daily Deviation?
A daily deviation is a feature of a submission. Please note that 'masterpiece', 'artwork' and other words are not mentioned in that particular FAQ.
Another thing that is often misunderstood is the face that there is a volunteer for most galleries on deviantART. I can't feature from Digital Art, Traditional Art, Literature, Photography, etc; only from deviantART Related. In most cases, volunteers can only feature from one parent or sub gallery.
Giving the artist hate
Community Volunteers are the ones who select the Daily Deviations. I encourage you to get angry at me instead of the artist! I love feedback on the DDs I feature when it's taken up with us directly.
See: FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
"deviantART Related shouldn't get DDs"
All galleries across deviantART should be treated equally in terms of what can receive a Daily Deviation. deviantART Suggestions seem to receive the most hatred because...
"...it isn't art."
People know that deviations such as a deviantART Suggestion isn't art, and no one is claiming it to be. I personally love featuring deviantART Suggestions as it's a great way to view the community's stance on a certain feature or what they would and wouldn't like for future versions of deviantART. It does take time and effort to create a visual suggestion too.
After featuring the deviation above, I learned that a lot of users love that deviantART is only in English because it's helped them to learn the language better.
Conclusion
Stop hating on the Daily Deviations themselves, contact the volunteer or staff member who featured it!
